Japanese FM to meet with Myanmar's President

YANGON, Myanmar - Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba, who arrived in Yangon Sunday evening for an official visit to Myanmar, will meet with Myanmar's President U Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, according to diplomatic sources.
Gemba will also have talks with his Myanmar's counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin on the day.
Flying to Yangon on Monday evening, Gemba will also meet with Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) , the sources added.
Gemba's Myanmar visit represents the first by a Japanese foreign minister since 2002.
Early this month, Myanmar and Japan made consultations over Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Myanmar.
The consultations discussed on development policy of Myanmar's new administration as well as Japan's assistance policy on ODA for sustainable economic development of Myanmar, including the formulation of projects that can be implemented under the current Japan's economic cooperation policy towards the country.
On Dec 13, economic cooperation committees of Myanmar's Chambers of Commerce and Industry and its Japanese counterpart met in Yangon to further enhance, diversify and develop the existing trade and investment business cooperation between the two countries.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed issues on reciprocal trade between businessmen of the two countries and boosting of investment, human resources development and industrial cooperation in IT sector, textile and garment industry, tourism activities, healthcare, oil and gas sector and mining.
According to figures, Japan injected a total of $211.9 million as of November this year since 1988, standing the 12th in Myanmar's foreign investors line-up.
